Electricity tariffs to go up from April as oil prices rise

Thanks to the oil price, people in Singapore will suffer again as the electricity bill will go again by average 1.26 cents (S$0.0126) per kilowatt starting 1 April.

Currently, the monthly average electricity bill for a four-room flat is S$78.39. But with the new rates, it will increase by S$4.37 to S$82.75.

So I have a little tips on how to reduce your electricity bills from today onwards..

1. Do not turn on the air-con when it is raining day. Use fan instead.
2. Everyone knows about this. Adjust the air con temperature to 25 degree. Optimum.
3. Do not use electricity kettle often. Use gas to cook your water in bulk and put into large container for consumption.
4. Keep the kettle free of lime scale by filling it with 1 cup of white vinegar and 2 cups of water. Leave to stand over night. Rinse carefully and throw away the first lot of boiled water.
5. Switch off the main switch for your TV set when you are off to work.
6. Use low-energy light bulbs (11 watts an hour) Traditional light bulbs use 80% more energy mostly making heat, not light.
7. Slow Cookers use very little energy
8. Wait until you have a full load before using the washing machine.
9. Cold wash anything that is not grease marked or heavily soiled.
10. Turn the heating thermostat down by just one degree and save up to 10 % of your overall electricity bill. (I have not done this, so will do it today!!)
