Myth of converting Malaysian driving license to Singapore license..

I came across many friends who wanted to convert their Malaysian license but without any clue of how to do it. They then searched the web and gathered many inconsistent information and they will tell you many interesting information that will scare you from converting it at the end. ..I was told not to convert 5 years ago because of this stupid information (Thanks to listen to my friends!)
Today let me share with you the top 3 myths that I have encountered so far. I will break it one by one after my personal experience..

Myth #1
If you convert, next time you cannot drive in Malaysia because your Malaysia License is deleted from their system.
Truth:
This is totally nonsense. First of all, you can still drive in Malaysia using the Singapore license because Singapore license is an international license. Secondly, your Malaysia license is not cancelled but deactivated in JPJ’s system. Deactivated means your record is still in the system but with the status of “deactivated”.

Myth #2
You need to ask someone to get your traffic records at JPJ such that your license will not be cancelled.
Truth:
Again, I do not know who create this mess. There is no such thing that whether you or who else get the traffic records, your license will still be deactivated but not cancelled.

Myth #3
With Singapore license, next time you cannot use back your Malaysia license if you want to leave Singapore.
Truth:
Not correct! You can still use back your Malaysia license with a letter from LTA Singapore saying that you need to “reactivate” your Malaysia license. That’s all.

I am not encouraging anyone from converting their license but to provide adequate advice such that people obtain the correct information prior to their conversion. To help people clear their mind of how to convert their license exactly, here’s the steps:

Step 1:
Bring your photos (with blue background), your valid license and your IC to JPJ located in Taman Daya Johor Bahru. If you are taking a cab from Woodlands checkpoint, the taxi fare is RM15.

Step 2:
Upon arriving JPJ JB, go to second floor, tell the customer service that you need to convert your license, she will then check your valid license that the IC on the license should match your IC number. If not, you have to renew with your photo. Renewal fee is RM30 per year.

Step 3:
Go to another counter, obtain the letter of your traffic record, the administrative fee is RM10. The look of the letter is something like the following:

Step 4:
Head to Singapore Driving Center (Bukit Batok driving Center). Provide your valid license, the letter from JPJ, your NRIC, your passport and any records that show that you stayed in foreign country for 6 month after getting your first license. Application fee of SGD50 is needed. That’s all. Now you can start driving in Singapore!!

Hi, I have a question..

I would like to get a Singaporean license but I did not stay in Singapore previously. Is it still possible?

Secondly, Malaysians do not have to take the Basic Theory Test?

Regards

Also please do not get any "agent" to help you to get the JPJ extract thinking that you won't get blacklisted, you will still get blacklisted

Is it possible to get someone to collect the extract on your behalf?

hi, i am checking on whether singaporean holding sg license can drive a normal malaysia car, because my wife is singaporean and wanted to drive my car in malaysia.Anyway i havent get my answer for my question yet, but when i google around i notice that alot of people are confusing about whether a malaysian (SPR) holding singapore license (after conversion) can drive malaysia car in malaysia or not? BTW i am malaysian and to be franked, i did not call jpj and ask about this in detail, but i can tell you that i asked the officer personally when the officer wanted to deactivate my malaysia driving license when i was applying for JPJ extract, the officer very kind and told me that noneed to worry, i can pass my sg driving license tag along with my malaysia IC when traffic police request to check your driving license, this will proof that you have driving license, and you are Malaysian. So far i had never been ask to show my driving license by TrafficPolice b4=). You can try it yourself. ( NOTE : Do not get any "agent" to help you for JPJ extract !!! alot of people get blacklisted when they go thru "agent". I am not sure about this as i go directly into jpj office for an official process.)

I was told that if your Malaysia license is deactivated, in the event you're involved in accident while driving Malaysia car, you'll not be covered by your car insurance. How true is this ?
